Thank you so much for your comment, that's really encouraging. I've been sidetracked by writing a story about Alice Munro over the summer but the next episode of the memoir is coming very soon! Keep watching out for it. Christine

It's taken me a while to come back to this installment... And wow, what a pleasure to read this again. So powerful and such great insights into family dynamics and how children receive and interpret events, actions, speech. I loved the description of the parcel of books wrapped in brown paper and Christine's warm glow in the bus home. How I feel for this little girl navigating the world.

Keen to read the next episode and find out whether the tea with Carole was a success and what happened at the fight? More please.

Really enjoying this memoir and getting to know the characters and setting. Rooting for the young protagonist. Lovely detailed and empathetic writing with a nice fresh spontaneous feel, I like the way the author gives us almost a stream of consciousness of her present older self along with life seen through the eyes of the young self. Absorbing and touching. Always delighted to see a new instalment pop up!

Your mention of Bredon’s bookshop brought back memories of it. My parents lived on East Street for a few years, they had a shop selling Peruvian handicrafts. I could never resist slipping over the road to the bookshop. Really enjoying your account and look forward to the next instalment.

And on the page your amplified joy in thinking all this through complements his charisma. Diamond eyes for a diamond geezer! I definitely like your Dad.
